Superintendent, Dr. Regina Thompson, was overjoyed to announce the five-year grant award totaling $15 million dollars to serve children from birth to four years old in the western communities of Bessemer, Birmingham, Brighton, Midfield, and Fairfield. According to
Dr. Thompson, “Our children deserve the best chance we can give them to build a solid learning foundation.” This endeavor will also offer support to pregnant mothers regarding the importance of prenatal care, postnatal development, and critical training on the overall care of their newborn.
With an anticipated start date of November 1, 2023, information relative to enrollment and hiring will be announced soon. As she looked around the room and reminisced over the arduous grant-writing process, Superintendent Thompson acknowledged board members, administrators who took an active role in the grant development process, other district administrators and employees who came to witness the unveiling of the award, and the media for sharing our good news with their constituents.
