Schools CLOSED effective immediately

March 15, 2020

Dear Fairfield City Schools Family,

Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our students, employees, and families, Fairfield City Schools will close effective immediately. At this time, the anticipated return date for ALL students and employees is Monday, April 6, 2020.

Our decision to close immediately follows the latest advisements of state superintendent of education, Dr. Eric Mackey, regarding the spread of COVID-19. Because Governor Kay Ivey has declared a state of emergency, students will NOT have to make up absences during this time period.

The Coronavirus pandemic is a constantly evolving situation, and the FCS district is reacting accordingly. We will offer expanded meal services during the school closure. Details will be provided as soon as planning is finalized. Parents should note that meals will not be provided during our scheduled spring break, March 23-27, 2020. An extended meal service plan will be provided if needed before April 5, 2020.

Our priority is to keep our students and employees safe; therefore, we will continue to follow the guidance of state leadership and health officials.

We ask that parents and guardians promote safe and healthy habits within your homes and families. We further encourage individuals who are sick to seek immediate medical attention, avoid contact with others, and follow the advice of your physician.

More detailed information on FCS meal plans, at-home educational activities, and other instructions is forthcoming. Please, continue to visit our website, www.fairfieldschoolsystem.com, for the latest updates.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping Fairfield students and staff safe.

Sincerely,

Dr. Regina Thompson

Superintendent of Fairfield City Schools
